XiaoHei (pronounced shau-hay) means “Small Black” in Chinese. It’s a dumb name for her since she is dark brown and tan, but she knows the name and all my attempts to change it have failed.
After 3 trips to the vet due to getting beat up by other dogs, I promised her that she wouldn’t have to return to the shelter, so she has been at my apartment for the past year. I love her dearly but can’t keep her.
She gets along great with everyone–she’s very outgoing and trusts new people immediately. I’ve watched her play with children, she plays with my other 2 dogs, she plays with my friend’s dogs and his neighbour’s dogs, she plays with the puppies I occasionally bring home, and she LOVES playing with my cat. Luckily, the cat likes playing with her too.
She would do really well in any situation as long as she got love, but I think a home with playmates–either children or pets–would suit her best.
She’s used to sleeping on my bed, so if you don’t like dogs on your bed I guess you’ll have to train her. Sorry! She’s very affectionate, obedient, quiet, and a little on the submissive side.

Xiao Hei has been adopted. No info as of yet of her new family and new life but we’re hopeful for an update soon. Henry as well was taken in and again we’re anxious for further information about these cool pups who lucked out and have a shot of living happily ever after.
So far the dogs who have been placed by our friends in an SPCA shelter in Toronto have been real hits with their new families, and knowing Xiao Hei and Henry there’s no reason to presume that the same won’t be said about these two.

My husband and I adopted Shau Hei!!!
We couldn’t be more happier.. she’s our little baby!! Thank you sooo much for taking care of our little girl.
